Rising cost of living, safety, convenience, rural areas, or great shopping may all have you asking the question Should I move? If you are pondering a relocation, this handy guide can offer you a glimpse into what you might expect in your quest for a new location.
A few months ago, Money Geek published a list of the safest and most dangerous cities to live.
In this article we will look at some on their list, and my suggestions/rebuttal.
Provo, Utah made the list of top safest, let’s break that down.
While it is true Provo is relatively safe, newcomers need to be aware of one thing. If young men come to your door in white button-down shirts, it’s not a home invasion, they’re just trying to turn you into a Mormon.
Also, on Money Geek’s list of safest cities, beautiful and sunny San Diego. SD without a doubt is one of the loveliest areas in southern California. Beaches, sunshine year-round, watersports, burritos with fries and the San Diego Padres but it comes with a cost. Yes, you can live about 10 miles from the ocean, but a two bed, two bath home with no AC will run you the same price as 3 solo rides on SpaceX. Choose wisely.
Making the sketchy list were Detroit, Memphis, and New Orleans.
Let’s face it, we all know not to travel to Detroit, the kiddie cycle Big Wheel even gets jacked for its rims. The bonus though of living in the Motor City (or former Motor City) is your new abode could garnish you your own fixer-upper show, Tiny Crack House DIY. A win, right?
Memphis, the best way to keep out of trouble is to never say North Carolina ribs are better than Memphis’. Also steer clear from Graceland, while the King (Elvis Presley) is gone there is still a chance you could get hit by a stolen Cadillac.
In New Orleans you may find that YOU are the one in trouble, If you wake up in a holding cell, don’t stress you can buy your way out with your Mardi Gras beads.
Not making the list are Los Angeles/San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and some parts of Texas.
There has been a recent exodus out the far western states, like California and Oregon with many going to Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee, and Florida.
However, the folks that moved from Oregon to Texas have been very vocal that their side hustle making macrame gun holsters has ranked poorly on artsy-type sites showing zero profits.
Lake Tahoe, absolutely stunning but in the winter, you will need one of those James Bond transformer-type cars that morph into a sedan with skis. This is a must since Tahoe roads close down faster than Fauci with a mask. Stock up on food too, the region doesn’t have a positive history with hungry neighbors.
Los Angeles despite its many problems the area still has incoming new residents seeking the dream, if that’s you, well here is how you make lemonade out of lemons. All the human excrement you see on the sidewalk can be recycled. LA and all of Cali is about going green, just put that doodie as fertilizer on the lawn that you won’t be able to water due to future droughts.
