Legislation concerning assisted suicide is currently being debated in nearly 20 states, as the issue continues to gain traction both in the United States and internationally. At present, nine states have legalized government-administered medically assisted suicide, while a 2009 ruling by the Montana Supreme Court held that such actions are not against public policy or illegal. California, Colorado, D.C., Hawaii, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Vermont already have laws in place that allow euthanasia. I happened upon a story published by a local news outlet here in the Phoenix, Arizona area recently, and needless to say, the headline caught my attention. The headline read: “Woman, 91, Raises $60,000 for Retirement on GoFundMe.” I want to make it very clear that I am in no way being critical of the woman featured in the article for raising funds for her retirement in this manner. Several months ago, I came across a study regarding the gap between services expected and services received by clients of financial advisors. I will say that the results were somewhat concerning. With a variety of different types of advisory practices, it is likely safe to say that not all advisors offer an identical set of services.
